Our Story

Every reef encounter tells a story.

Every time we slipped beneath the surface in Hawaiʻi, we discovered something new. A fish we had never noticed before. A pattern, a color, a behavior that made us stop and look a little longer.

We wanted our daughters, Julia and Emilia, to feel that same wonder and curiosity about the underwater creatures. What are their names? Why do they have a specific color or shape? What role do they play in the vibrant coral reef city beneath the waves?

So we decided to create the book we had been searching for ourselves. We hope our books inspire children to look a little closer, ask questions, fall in love with the ocean.

That's how Big Island Big Dreams was born. From countless reef encounters and a belief that the more we learn about the ocean, the more we care about it.
